Low T and what can cause it

What causes Low Testosterone? Well I am no expert and I have been stricken by Low T so I will keep this section to a minimum if you need anwers there is a wealth of information online. Some of it is quite contradictory. Usually depending on who is the source.

Low testosterone is usually caused by decreasing with age. As we age, naturally our T levels deteriorate.

Or it could be caused by some form of head injury or Trauma (this will damage the feedback/control system between the Pituitary gland and the Testes)

At the other end of the Axis, damage to the Testicles can cause Low Testosterone production. An injury sustained during a game of football or rugby can easily cause permanent damage.

Certain types of medication may cause low testosterone.

Vasectomy and Low Testosterone

Vasectomy ( Now here is the controversial part) It is currently being suggested that Vasectomy may actually lower your natural production of Testosterone. Some studies are attempting to prove this is the case but it naturally goes against the mainstream medical establishments current thinking.

I had my Vasectomy carried out privately at a well reputed national chain of clinics. Everything went fine through the procedure. I had quite a lot of pain on one side during the short process. Suggesting that maybe the anaesthetic was not quite in the right place. But I soon recovered and got back into the saddle. Sex didn’t feel quite as good as it used to, probably in the region now of 80%. I accept that this might be an acceptable level of enjoyment if it prevents any accidental pregnancies in my now completed family.

It was about a year after my Vasectomy, if that – between me being sterilised and having low T caused by Empty Sella Syndrome.

Now I accept it could be a coincidence certainly. But seeing as I had never had any issues in the previous 36 years.. why should it start now? All I am saying is that for me the jury is out on whether Vasectomy can indeed lower Testosterone.

I just have to point out however that a lot of Doctors and Medical organisations ‘may’ have some form of vested interest in keeping Vasectomies being pushed as almost 100% safe with barely any side effects. It may be safer than other current methods of sterilisation but when there is easy money to be made in a relatively easy ‘cut and shut’ market why would they want to look too deep?

After all the side effects aren’t considered life threatening. But my advice to anyone considering a Vasectomy is…Please do your research and make your own mind up. If it ain’t broke…don’t fix it!

Maybe if I could turn back time myself I would not have opted for this surgery. But hindsight is a wonderful thing huh..
